Use Solar as a Hedge

utilitydive.comUse Solar as a HedgePricing in ERCOT is coming out of a stretch of historic low pricing.  So many customers go used to the low pricing as a norm and are now experiencing sticker shock. Especially those who have supply contracts that expire in 2018 and 2019.  Beyond working to get a low supply contract you should consider solar as a hedge against rising prices. Right now onsite solar pricing is on par with 3rd party rates, but when you factor in demand cost reductions it is actually cheaper than purchased power.  Solar will not likely cover 100% of your load but why not secure 20-30% of your load with solar? You will not be alone.  Solar is undergoing a revolution in the USA and Texas is the next prime candidate. Take a look at this article about how solar is impacting utilities.

Sign and Drive

Sign & DriveMarket InformationI have an electricity contract already - please stop calling me! I get it. The number of calls, emails, webinar invitations, market reports, etc. you receive from energy brokers/suppliers is just overwhelming.  It is an eat what you kill industry and the salespeople are just doing their jobs, but it can be frustrating from the customer point of view.  What is worse is that the services they offer are pretty much the same.  And when your contract expiration is about 18 months out the call volume gets worse. Why is it that brokers focus on you now? Why is it that you sign a contract and don't hear from the broker until now?  And when you do finally hear from the company again, the odds are it will be a different person calling you? Don't you expect better than this?  If you want to be treated like you are buying a used car then stop reading here. The energy industry and market is constantly evolving. New technologies, regulations, and market dynamics present an ever-changing set of opportunities to optimize your energy spend.  Most companies do not realize how to identify these opportunities for themselves. This is what...

Electric Grid Vulnerability – Today’s Real Threat

Electric Grid VulnerabilityToday’s Real ThreatWe at QEA to work diligently to reduce and manage our client’s energy spend, however what if there was no energy? What if, god forbid, North Korea detonates an EMP over the USA and wipes out the grid? It would take hours if not minutes for society to collapse. Do not take the grid for granted. A scary thought for sure. Let us hope that our leaders do not do anything to provoke such a catastrophe. For more information view the news article at ZeroHedge.com.

Electrical Grid Vulnerability

Market InformationElectrical Grid VulnerabilityThis is a topic that does not get a lot of press, but should.  We take electricity for granted, but society will collapse without electricity for more than a few days.  No medicine, no gasoline, no food, etc.  Utilities and government need to band together and protect the grid.
